Jackets doffed as city gets hot (eastday.com) Updated: 2005-04-08 09:18

Nanjing Road W. yesterday as the mercury climbs to 29.5 degrees
Celsius.[eastday.com] | Experiencing one
of the latest springs in recent memory, it seemed like Shanghai plunged directly
into summer yesterday.
The high hit 29.5 degrees Celsius and set a new
50-year mark for this time of year, according to the Shanghai Meteorological
Bureau.
Even the daily low was a balmy 14.5 degrees.
Yesterday's
sweaty weather caught many people by surprise, and the sidewalks were filled
with office workers and shoppers carrying their jackets and sweaters over their
arms.
The unseasonable weather will continue today, and despite
increasing cloudiness, the daily high should reach 28 degrees, with a low of
17.
It's not time to break out the shorts and halter tops just yet,
though. More-spring-like weather is expected for the weekend. Showers are
forecast for tomorrow, Sunday and Monday, with a chance of
thunderstorms.
Temperatures tomorrow are expected to range between 16 and
24 degrees, and on Sunday from 14 to 18 degrees.
