Swiss flute maestro Peter-Lukas Graf will present a recital in Beijing. Born in 1929, Graf majored in conducting at the Conservatoire National de Paris. In his early 20s, Graf won an international award as a flutist. Over the past decades, he has been a conductor with many orchestras. He is also an educator at the Basel Music Academy. China Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will also feature in a program that includes Bach's Sonata in E Major, Mozart's Flute Quartet in D Major and Flute Concerto in D Major.

The Peony Pavilion, the classic Kunqu Opera, is on at the Imperial Granary, a perfect venue for such a show. The Imperial Granary was rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), 600 years ago, at exactly the same time the Kunqu Opera was written.

The Chinese Acrobatics Group has toured more than 80 countries and helped foster friendships with them. Its performance includes traditional acrobatics, a circus show, magic and old Beijing folk plays. The show blends music, dance, local opera and martial arts.

Exhibitions

Photographer Wang Jingfeng's works showcase the natural beauty and vivid everyday life of Wang's native hometown, Jiangyan, Jiangsu province.

The 80-odd photographs on display track the changing countryside in that province.

A grand art expo showing 2,000 ink paintings and oil works is to be held in Beijing. Some are done in the traditional way by master painters such as Huang Binhong, Wang Shikuo, and Qi Baishi, while some others, created by such masters as Lin Fengmian and Xu Beihong, are heavily influenced by Western art concepts and techniques.

Apart from the exhibition, there will also be academic seminars on art collecting and 20th century Chinese art.
